Event: LGBTQ Career*Con

Location: Brown Faculty Club

Time: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Brown University LGBTQ Center and CareerLAB have partnered up to host a special Career*Con focusing on the needs & concerns of the LGBTQ community and what it means to be a diverse individual in the job application process. There will be a moderated panel discussion, followed by dinner and conversation. Register here! Check in begins at 4:30 p.m.

Event: International and Immigrant Roundtable

Location: CIT 368

Time: 5:00 p.m.

The third installment of the Computer Science Department’s roundtable series will feature a discussion on being an international or immigrant student at Brown and within CS. Food will be provided!

Event: Civics and Politics Film Series

Location: Cable Car

Time: 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The Providence Center for Media Culture continues its Civics and Politics Film Series with 1984. Proceeds will benefit the Rhode Island ACLU.

Event: Maximizing your Summer Internship

Location: Brown CareerLAB

Time: 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

An information session, where you’ll discover what to expect from your internship, and how to learn the norms of a professional environment, tackle scenarios you may encounter on the job, and set SMART goals to help you get the most out of your experience.

Event: S&B Presents: Invasion!

Location: Leeds Theatre

Time: Thursday-Saturday at 8:00 p.m., Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Brown University Department of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies and Sock & Buskin present Invasion! by Jonas Hassen Khemiri, a satirical comedy of how the Western world has come to fear its own preconceived idea of the Arabic male identity. Tickets available here.

Event: PW Presents: Songs I stole from Anya

Location: T.F. Green Hall (7 Young Orchard Ave)

Time: Friday – Saturday and Monday at 8:00 p.m., Sunday at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

A new play, written and directed by Iris Cronin ’19, exploring what it means to love, lose, and grow up in the long shadow of mental illness. FREE tickets will be available online and at the door.

Saturday, April 8

Event: Innovate@Brown

Location: Sayles

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

A makeathon designed to bring together students from technical and nontechnical backgrounds. With the guidance of notable speakers, workshop leaders, and mentors, students will have the opportunity to work in teams to come up with a product that can solve a major world problem. The best product in the conference will be awarded $250 and continued mentorship from the Nelson Center of Entrepreneurship. Register here!

Event: If They Should Come for Us: Poems by Fatimah Asghar

Location: 85 Waterman

Time: 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

An evening of poetry with queer Pakistani Muslim poet, performer and Brown alum (’09) Fatimah Asghar. Fatimah’s work has been featured in PBS, NPR, Time, Teen Vogue and the Huffington Post. The event will be opened by Muslim poets from the Brown and Providence community. Reserve free tickets here.
