Monday, April 10

Event: IFF 2017: ‘Across the Line’, a 10-minute VR Screening

Location: Granoff Studio 1

Time: 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

IFF has a lot of events planned for us… Kick off the week with Across the Line, an immersive virtual reality experience presented by Planned Parenthood. You can sign up for a 10-minute screening slot here!

Tuesday, April 11

Event: BOMBS presents Loving Week

Location: Main Green

Time: 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Take advantage of the ~amazing~ weather  to kick off the first day of Loving Week, presented by the Brown Organization of Multiracial and Biracial Students (BOMBS)! Get your photo taken or send a Loving Gram to a friend! Blankets, snacks, and music will be provided.

Event: IFF 2017: “Menashe”

Location: Granoff Auditorium

Time: 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

A father/son drama from A24 directed by Joshua Z. Weinstein. One of the first films to be performed almost entirely in Yiddish in nearly 70 years! Register for tickets here.

Event: Growth Marketing at Houseparty

Location: Wilson 309

Time: 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Brown Entrepreneurship Program presents Kimberly Kalb, the Director of Growth at Houseparty, a venture-backed Silicon Valley start-up. Ms. Kalb will be giving guest lecture on the evolution of social media and answer questions about tech entrepreneurship.

Wednesday, April 12

Event: Brown University MPC Workshop: No Gentrification at Anytime

Location: 75 Waterman

Time: 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The 4th Minority Peen Counsellor workshop of the Spring Semester. This workshop will evaluate the causes and effects of housing discrimination and gentrification in the United States. It will also to explore the ways in which college students are perpetuating these systems of oppression, in Providence and cities alike.

Event: IFF 2017: Keynote Speaker M. Night Shyamalan

Location: Saloman Hall, Petteruti Lounge

Time: 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

A moderated discussion with M. Night Shyamalan as we reflect on his long career as a science-fiction filmmaker. Tickets are sold out but some non-ticket holders will have the chance to get in!

Event: “Loving” Movie Screening

Location: 85 Waterman Street, 130

Time: 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

A screening of the movie Loving (2016), nominated for a Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations the lead actor and actress. The movie celebrates the real-life story of an interracial couple who spent nine years fighting for the right to live as a family in their hometown.

Thursday, April 13

Event: IFF 2017: Ezra Edelman

Location: Granoff Studio 1

Time: 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

A conversation with Academy Award-winning documentary producer and director Ezra Edelman! Again, tickets are sold out.

Event: Intersections of Race and Gender at Panel

Location: Salomon 001

Time: 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

A panel that will bring folks of different racial identities together to discuss the intersections of race and gender in their lives, and how those intersections have shaped their lived experiences. The panel will center black queer and trans women and femmes and their narratives. Although it’s part of BOMBS’ Loving Week, this panel does not center multiraciality and anybody who identifies as a person of color is welcome to come. There will be snacks and drinks!

Event: IFF 2017: Barry Levinson & the Creative Coalition

Location: Granoff Auditorium

Time: 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A conversation with Barry Levinson, the Academy-Award-winning director of “Rain Man,” moderated by Robin Bronk, CEO of The Creative Coalition, the premier nonprofit, nonpartisan social and political advocacy organization of the entertainment industry. Tickets are sold out but there’s always a chance!

Event: Girl Rising Screening with KNEAD Doughnuts

Location: Salomon Hall

Time: 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

GlobeMed at Brown is hosting a scrrening of the Girl Rising film, which follows the stories and struggles of nine girls around the world. Treats will be provided by KNEAD Doughnuts!

Friday, April 14

Event: Sophomore Slump Series Presents: Spring on the Quad

Location: Ruth J. Simmons Quad

Time: 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Take advantage of the ~amazing~ weather and celebrate Spring with the Class of 2019! There will be FREE soft serve ice cream, Dell’s lemonade, and inflatables!!

Event: IFF 2017: Virtual Reality Arcade

Location: Granoff Studio 4

Time: 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The VR Arcade will be exhibiting interactive student and professional virtual reality pieces. These experiences will be curated using hardware such as the HTC Vive, the Oculus, Samsung Gear, and the CAVE! Tickets are sold out for this event. Sign up here!

Event: IFF 2017: Official Selection

Location: Granoff Auditorium

Time: 7:00 p.m. and Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at Avon

Come see the best of the best in this year’s student filmmaking and screenwriting, selected from over 300 submissions of outstanding student animations, comedies, dramas, documentaries, and more! Block 1 and 3 of the official selection will be at Granoff, and Block 2 will be at the Avon.

 

 

Event: Check All That Apply

Location: Kassar House, Foxboro Auditorium

Time: 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

A dance performance on mixed-race identity, in honor of Loving Week. Check All That Apply is the project of a New York-based dance group, featuring a cast of mixed-race artists. The performance will feature storytelling, dance and audience participation, followed by a discussion.

Event: Shades of Brown, Spring Concert ’17

Location: Grant Recital Hall

Time: 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Come to support the most of color a cappella group at Brown. Featuring a performance from Divine Rhythm – Brown University Step Team!

Saturday, April 15

Event: IFF 2017: Official Selection Screenplay reading and brunch

Location: Granoff Studio 1

Time: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Event: IFF 2017: Storytelling in Virtual Reality

Location: Granoff

Time: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Adam Blumenthal will moderate a discussion about the challenges of telling stories in the medium of Virtual Reality in the auditorium. A VR screening room will be available before and after in Studio 4 on floor 3N. Free tickets will be released on the Facebook page!

Event: The Multiracial Banquet

Location: Sayles Hall

Time: 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Brown Organization of Multiracial and Biracial Students, BOMBS (in  collaboration with MASH Club and the Multiracial Heritage Series) will be hosting a Multiracial Gala. This FREE, semi-formal event is open to all people who identify as multiracial, and all people of color in the Brown community. The event will feature an alumi speaker, several student performances, and catered food from Flames, a local Jamaican restaurant!

Sunday, April 16

Event: IFF 2017: “The Immortal Life of Henreitta Lacks”

Location: Saloman Hall

Time: 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Pre-screening of an upcoming drama television film directed by George C. Wolfe and starring Oprah Winfrey. Free tickets will be released on the Facebook Page.
