Today, 1vyG, an existing inter-Ivy conference and network for first generation and low income students, is announcing its expansion. Joseph Vukel, B’19, writes:
“1vyG, founded by graduates Manuel Contreras, Jessica Brown, and Stanley Stewart, is best known for hosting an annual conference for first-gen and low-income students and for initiatives such as #NoApologies, which was responsible for Brown dropping the application fee for low-income college applicants this past semester.
However, EdMobilizer—now the ‘parent organization’ to 1vyG—was recently created. Our goal is to use EdMobilizer as a platform to expand on the conferences 1vyG was known for but also engage in more intimate work with first-gen and low-income students. These other initiatives are still in the works, but what has recently been confirmed is our expansion to the West Coast with a FLi conference at Stanford University to be held the first week of March 2018.”
